# Pria, Explained Simply

> New to Pria, or to AI? A plain-language tour of what Pria is, its building blocks, what learners can do, how to make credits last, and what admins set up.

Lost, or just starting? This page explains Pria in everyday words. Each section is short and ends with a link to the full guide for that topic.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **One thing, three names.** In these docs we call your assistant a **Digital Twin**. You will also see it called an **Instance** — on the **Instance Settings** panel, in the admin **Instances** list, and in your web address (`your-instance.praxislxp.com`) — and an **Institution**, which is what our software calls it behind the scenes (in API fields such as `institution`). All three mean exactly the same thing: one assistant, with its own knowledge, voice, members and settings. Which name you see depends on the screen you are on, not on what the thing is. An **Account** is different — it is the organisation that owns one or more Digital Twins.

## What Pria is

Pria is an assistant you talk to, in writing or out loud. You ask it something in your own words, and it answers: it explains, writes, summarises, makes quizzes, reads your documents, and can take small actions for you, like searching the web or creating an image.

### AI in one minute

| Idea | In plain words |
| - | - |
| **AI model** | The "brain" that reads your message and writes the answer. Pria can use several brains from different companies; your admin picks the right one for each job. See [AI Models](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/interface/model-selection.md). |
| **Prompt** | What you type or say to Pria. Clearer prompts get better answers. See [Best Practices](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/best-practices.md). |
| **Credits** | The "fuel" Pria uses. Every answer costs a few credits; longer, richer answers cost more. See [Plans & Credits](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/introduction/plans-and-credits.md). |

> [!NOTE]
>
> AI can be wrong. Pria shows where an answer came from when it used your files ([citations](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/files-documents/citations.md)), so check anything important.

***

## The five building blocks

Everything in Pria is built from five ideas. Once you know them, the rest of the docs make sense.

> **[Digital Twin: the personality](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/digital-twin-getting-started.md)**
>
> **Who** you're talking to. A Digital Twin has a name, a face, a tone and an area of expertise — a "Professor Ada" for your course, a support agent for your company. Each twin has its own knowledge, members and settings.

> **[Assistants: the skills](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/assistants-personalization/assistants.md)**
>
> **How** it does a specific job. An Assistant is a ready-made helper for one task — a quiz maker, an essay coach, a meeting summariser. Pick one, and the twin follows its recipe.

> **[Files and IP Vault: the knowledge](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/files-documents/ipvault.md)**
>
> **What it knows** beyond general knowledge. Upload your documents to the IP Vault and Pria reads them to answer, quoting its sources. Your files stay private to you or your twin.

> **[Tools: the abilities](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/interface/tools.md)**
>
> **What it can do** besides writing. Tools let Pria search the web, create images, read a PDF, check your calendar or work in your course. You choose how many to switch on.

> **[Memory: what it remembers](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/memory/memory-systems.md)**
>
> **What it keeps** between conversations — your preferences, facts you asked it to remember, and the thread of your current chat — so you don't repeat yourself.

> [!TIP]
>
> A simple way to remember it: the **Digital Twin** is *who*, the **Assistant** is *how*, the **files** are *what it knows*, the **tools** are *what it can do*, and **memory** is *what it remembers*.

## Your personal Pria and Digital Twins

Everyone starts with a **personal Pria**. Digital Twins come next, when a group of people needs an assistant built for them.

| | Personal Pria | A Digital Twin |
| - | - | - |
| **Who it's for** | Just you | A group: a class, a team, a company, or the public |
| **What it knows** | General knowledge, plus the files you upload to your own vault | The knowledge its owners give it: course notes, policies, product sheets, research |
| **Personality** | Pria, the friendly all-rounder | Its own name, face, voice and way of speaking |
| **Who shapes it** | You, through your own settings, files and assistants | Its admins: they write its instructions and choose its knowledge, tools and members |
| **Who pays** | Your own credits | Your credits, or credits the twin shares with its members |
| **Privacy** | Private to you: your files stay in your own vault | Shared with the twin's members; each person's own files stay theirs |

You move between your personal Pria and the twins you belong to in the [Digital Expert Gallery](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/interface/digital-expert-gallery.md).

### Why have more than one twin?

One assistant that tries to know everything ends up knowing nothing well. A twin built for **one audience and one job** gives sharper answers, shows each person only the knowledge that's meant for them, and keeps each group's credits and settings separate.

> **One twin per department**
>
> A company runs a twin for each team, each loaded with that team's own knowledge:
>
> * **HR** answers questions on benefits, leave and policies — at 2 a.m. as well as 2 p.m.
> * **Sales** knows the products, pricing and the usual objections, and role-plays a tough customer before the real call.
> * **Engineering** draws on design documents, runbooks and coding standards, so new hires get answers without interrupting a senior engineer.

> **One twin per teacher**
>
> Each teacher has a twin built from their own syllabus, notes and way of explaining things. Students get help with homework at 11 p.m., when the teacher is asleep, in the voice and style of the teacher they know. The teacher stays in charge: they decide what the twin knows and how it answers.

> **One twin per course or program**
>
> A university gives each course its own twin, opened from inside Canvas or Blackboard, so it always knows which course the student is in.

> **One twin for the public**
>
> A school or business puts a twin on its website to welcome visitors, answer common questions and point them to the right person.

### Why Praxis AI is "Human First"

A Digital Twin doesn't replace the person behind it; it **extends them**. The teacher's knowledge reaches every student, at any hour. The HR team's answers reach every employee, without a queue. The expert is no longer the bottleneck, and the people in charge still decide what the twin knows, how it speaks and who it serves.

That's what we mean by **amplifying human potential**: the technology does the repeating, so people can do the teaching, the deciding and the caring. Read more on the [Welcome](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/introduction/welcome.md#human-first-in-an-ai-first-world) page.

### Getting a Digital Twin

* **On your own:** once your personal Pria has answered 5 of your questions, you can create a Digital Twin of your own, up to 3 per account. See [Create a Digital Twin](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/create-digital-twin.md).
* **In a school or company:** your admins create the twins and invite you, or you join one from inside your course. See the [Admin Guide](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/introduction.md).

## Making your credits go further

Credits are spent on how much Pria reads and writes. A few habits keep them lasting longer:

* **Use the right Assistant.** A focused Assistant does the job in fewer, shorter answers than a general chat.
* **Switch on only the tools you need.** Start with the **Minimal** tool set; every extra tool makes each message heavier.
* **Start a new conversation for a new topic.** A long conversation is re-read on every message, so it costs more each time.
* **Upload files instead of pasting long text.** Pria then reads only the parts it needs.
* **Type when you'd re-read the answer.** Talking out loud costs more than typing, and an avatar keeps people talking longer.

See [Credit Optimization](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/credits-optimization.md) for the full list, and [Credits](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/user-guide/credits.md) to check your balance.

## For admins: shaping your Digital Twin

As an admin, you set up the Digital Twin everyone else uses. In short:

| You set | What it changes | Learn more |
| - | - | - |
| **Personality and instructions** | How the twin speaks, what it focuses on and what it avoids | [Digital Twin Instructions](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/digital-twin-instructions.md) · [Personalization](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/personalization.md) |
| **AI models** | Which "brain" answers — faster and cheaper, or deeper and more capable | [AI Models](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/ai-models.md) |
| **Knowledge** | The documents the twin draws on for everyone, and how it searches them | [Knowledge & RAG](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/knowledge-rag-config.md) |
| **Assistants** | The ready-made skills your members see | [Assistants](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/assistants.md) |
| **Tools and connectors** | Which abilities are allowed, and links to Google, Microsoft or your LMS | [Tools](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/tools.md) · [Connectors](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/connectors.md) |
| **People and credits** | Who can use the twin, and how credits are shared | [Users](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/users.md) · [Enrollment](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/enrollment.md) · [Credit Management](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/credit-management.md) |

Customizing pays off twice: a twin with clear instructions, the right model and only the tools it needs gives better answers **and** spends fewer credits.

See the [Admin Guide](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/introduction.md) for everything else.

## For admins: talking out loud with Convo Mode

**Convo Mode** lets people *talk* with the Digital Twin, like a phone call, instead of typing. Turn it on when:

* **Speaking helps learning** — language practice, interview or role-play training, oral exams.
* **Typing is a barrier** — accessibility, younger learners, people on the move.
* **Presence matters** — onboarding, demos, or a welcoming face on your website.

There are a few kinds of conversation. Each needs a little more set-up than the one before it:

| Kind of conversation | Good for | What you need to set up |
| - | - | - |
| **Quick, natural voice** (OpenAI Realtime, Gemini Live) | Fast back-and-forth, multilingual classes | Nothing extra — works out of the box |
| **Listening and talking at once** (OpenAI GPT-Live) | Natural interruptions, while still using your twin's own files and tools | Nothing extra — works out of the box; adds a per-second charge for talk time |
| **Premium brand voice** (ElevenLabs, Cartesia) | A distinctive, high-quality voice people remember | Choose a voice (Cartesia), or connect a voice agent (ElevenLabs) |
| **Talking avatar** (Anam, with a premium voice) | A face on screen with lip-sync — the strongest sense of presence | Set up for you by the Praxis AI team — tell them the persona and voice you want |

> [!TIP]
>
> Not sure? Start with quick, natural voice. Move to a premium voice or an avatar when the experience itself matters — and remember that spoken sessions spend more credits than typing.

Compare all the options in [Voice & Realtime Providers](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/voice-providers/overview.md). ## Where Pria can live: integrations

Pria isn't only a website you visit. It goes to where people already work and learn — the same Digital Twin, with the same knowledge, in many places at once. Your admins and developers decide where.

### In your learning platform

Students and teachers open Pria **inside their course**, already signed in, and Pria knows which course they're in.

> **[Canvas](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/canvas/overview.md)**
>
> Two ways in: a **floating Pria button on every course page** across your whole Canvas, or a Pria item that teachers place in a module, course by course. With permission, Pria can also read the course's assignments, pages and syllabus to give answers about *this* course.

> **[Blackboard Learn](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/blackboard/introduction.md)**
>
> Your Blackboard admin adds Pria with one Client ID; teachers add it to a course from **Content Market**. Students open it inside the course — and you can ask them to confirm their Blackboard sign-in first.

Moodle and D2L Brightspace work the same way, through the same LTI standard: see [Moodle](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/moodle/introduction.md) and [D2L Brightspace](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/d2l/introduction.md).

### On your website or app

| What you want | What it looks like | Learn more |
| - | - | - |
| A chat on your own site | A few lines of code add Pria to any web page or app, signed in with your own users | [Web SDK](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/web/introduction.md) |
| A talking face on your homepage | An animated avatar visitors can speak with, no account needed | [Avatar Widget](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/web/avatar-widget.md) |
| A link anyone can open | Share a web address; people chat with your twin as guests | [Guest Links](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/web/guest-links.md) |

### In the tools you already use

* **Meetings** — send your twin into a Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Webex call as a participant that listens, answers when asked, and posts a short recap when the call ends. See [Meeting Agent](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/meeting-agent.md).
* **Email, files and calendars** — connect Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and Pria can read a document from your drive, check your calendar or draft an email. See [Google Workspace](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/google-workspace.md) and [Microsoft 365](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/microsoft-365.md).
* **Almost anything else** — **connectors** are like a universal plug: link Slack, a CRM like Salesforce, a database or an automation hub, and their actions become new tools for your twin. See [Connectors](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/connectors.md).

### Inside other AI assistants, like Claude or ChatGPT

Already using another AI assistant? **MCP** (Model Context Protocol) is a common standard that lets AI apps borrow each other's skills — think of it as a universal plug between AI tools. It works in both directions:

> **[Your twin's knowledge inside Claude or ChatGPT](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/mcp/introduction.md)**
>
> Connect your Digital Twin to an assistant such as **Claude** (for example Claude Desktop) or **ChatGPT**, or to a coding tool like **Cursor**. When you ask there about your course, policies or products, it can search your twin's documents and answer from them. You need the address of your twin's MCP server and its secret, from your admin; the app must let you add an MCP server.

> **[Other tools inside your twin](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/admin-guide/connectors.md)**
>
> The other way round: plug MCP servers such as Slack, Zapier or your own company systems into your twin, and their actions become tools Pria can use during a conversation.

### For programmers

| If you want to… | Use | Learn more |
| - | - | - |
| Add a twin to an app that already talks to AI | The **Chat Completions API** — it speaks the same language as OpenAI's, so existing code works with a change of address and key | [Chat Completions](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/chat-completions/introduction.md) |
| Build your own experience around Pria | The **REST API** and the **JavaScript SDK** — everything the Pria app does, available to your code | [API Reference](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/api-reference/introduction.md) · [JavaScript SDK](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/sdk/javascript.md) |
| Let other AI tools use your twin's knowledge | Pria as an **MCP server** — Claude, ChatGPT, a coding assistant like Cursor, or your own AI agent can search your twin's knowledge directly | [MCP Server](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/mcp/introduction.md) |

### In automated workflows

Pria can work without anyone typing. With an API key, a scheduled job or an automation platform such as **n8n, Make or Zapier** can call your Digital Twin on its own. For example:

* Every Monday, ask the HR twin to summarise the week's most common questions and email the team.
* When a form is submitted on your website, have the support twin draft a reply for a person to check.
* When a new document lands in a shared folder, have the twin add it to its knowledge and post a summary.

See [Automation in the API Reference](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/api-reference/introduction.md) to get started.

> [!TIP]
>
> Not sure where to start? The [Developer Getting Started](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/developer/getting-started.md) page helps you pick the right path, and [Integrations Overview](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/overview.md) lists them all.
