# Install the LXP in Blackboard Learn (LTI 1.3)

> Add LXP courses to Blackboard Learn as an LTI Advantage tool, registered with its Client ID

## Introduction

This guide walks Blackboard Learn administrators through adding the Praxis LXP as an **LTI 1.3 Advantage** tool, and shows instructors how to place LXP content in a course.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Installing **Pria**, the Digital Twin, rather than the LXP? It is a separate tool with its own Client ID: see [Pria in Blackboard Learn](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/integrations/blackboard/introduction.md).

Blackboard registers LTI 1.3 tools centrally. Praxis AI has registered the LXP with Anthology once, and that registration has a **Client ID**. You paste the Client ID into Blackboard, and Blackboard fills in everything else: the LXP's addresses, keys and course placements. You never type the LXP's URLs into Blackboard.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

* [ ] Blackboard Learn administrator access (the **Admin** page)
* [ ] The LXP's Client ID (above)
* [ ] Your organisation's LXP **credentials and role ID**, for the product you're registering. Request them from the Praxis AI team at [humans@praxis-ai.com](mailto:humans@praxis-ai.com).
* [ ] [Network requirements](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/lxp/admin/lti-overview.md#network-requirements) met (whitelisted domains, third-party cookies)

## Register the LXP

**1. Open LTI Tool Providers**

In Blackboard, open **Admin**. Under **Integrations**, select **LTI Tool Providers**.

![Blackboard Admin page, Integrations section with the LTI Tool Providers link](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/M7q0BaD47W-iuzaZ/images/integrations/blackboard/bb-admin-integrations.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M7q0BaD47W-iuzaZ\&q=85\&s=abe66604f9fa63b50f06bebfa87aa527)

**2. Register the LXP with its Client ID**

Select **Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool**, paste the LXP's Client ID, `7ed260b0-2318-4f97-9406-c8e7dc8ac25d`, into the **Client ID** box, and select **Submit**.

![Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool page with an empty Client ID field and Submit button](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/M7q0BaD47W-iuzaZ/images/integrations/blackboard/bb-register-client-id.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=M7q0BaD47W-iuzaZ\&q=85\&s=18cb32b027112361d3dfe28cb9fd0492)

Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool asks only for the Client ID

**3. Check the LXP's details and approve it**

Blackboard opens **Accept LTI 1.3 Tool** and shows the LXP's registration as read-only fields: the name **Praxislxp LTI learning**, the domain `lti.praxislxp.com`, and addresses on `https://lti.praxislxp.com`. It also shows the **Default Deployment ID**, which identifies your Blackboard site; keep it in case the Praxis AI team asks for it.

**Tool Status** starts as **Excluded**. Select **Approved**.

![Accept LTI 1.3 Tool page showing the LXP's name Praxislxp LTI learning, login, redirect and JWKS URLs on lti.praxislxp.com, the lti.praxislxp.com domain and Tool Status Approved](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/zn6tv6gqw9VolCls/images/lxp/blackboard/lxp-bb-accept-tool.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=zn6tv6gqw9VolCls\&q=85\&s=dd0b9f0468182d1700dff93898b39d05)

**4. Enter your organisation's custom parameters**

Below **Tool Status**, the **Tool Provider Custom Parameters** box arrives filled with the registration's example values. They are placeholders and don't sign in to the LXP. Replace the credential and role lines with the values Praxis AI gave you for your organisation and product, one `name=value` per line:

```text theme={null}
alaiemail=<provided by Praxis AI>
alaipassword=<provided by Praxis AI>
alairoleid=<provided by Praxis AI>
```

Leave the other lines as they are unless Praxis AI tells you otherwise.

**Choose what instructors can pick (optional).** Two more custom parameters set what the LXP's resource picker offers when an instructor adds LXP content to a course:

| Parameter | Value | Effect |
| - | - | - |
| `resourcestype` | `cohorts` (the default) or `courses` | Whether the picker lists LXP **cohorts** or LXP **courses**. |
| `alaicohortid` | A cohort ID from Praxis AI | Uses one cohort. With `cohorts`, the picker offers only this cohort, so instructors don't have to find it in the list. With `courses`, learners who open an LXP course are enrolled in this cohort. |

A cohort is set up by the Praxis AI team for your organisation and groups all of a class's learners, with the class's start and end dates. Ask Praxis AI for your cohort ID.

> [!WARNING]
>
> These values tell the LXP which organisation and role a launch belongs to, and one of them is a password. Treat them like a credential: don't paste them into a shared document or a ticket.

**5. Set the institution policies**

Further down the same page, under **Institution Policies**:

| Setting | Value | Why |
| - | - | - |
| **User Fields to Send** | **Role in Course**, **Name**, **Email Address** | The LXP signs each learner in by email address. Without it, the launch stops with "The LMS did not share this user's email address". |
| **Allow grade service access** | **Yes** | Lets the LXP send each learner's score to the Gradebook. |
| **Allow Membership Service Access** | **Yes** | Lets the LXP read course membership through the LTI service. |

Select **Submit**. The LXP now appears in **LTI Tool Providers** as an approved LTI 1.3 tool.

**6. Check the LXP's placements**

The LXP comes with its placements already set up, so there's nothing to create. To check them, open the LXP's menu in **LTI Tool Providers** and choose **Manage Placements**. You'll see two placements, both pointing at `https://lti.praxislxp.com`:

* **Deep Linking content tool**: opens the LXP's resource picker so the instructor can choose a course or cohort. **This is the one to use.**
* **Course content tool**: adds a plain LXP link that doesn't say which course or cohort to open, so it doesn't launch LXP content.

![Manage Placements for lti.praxislxp.com listing Praxislxp LTI learning as a Course content tool and as a Deep Linking content tool, both at https://lti.praxislxp.com](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/zn6tv6gqw9VolCls/images/lxp/blackboard/lxp-bb-placements.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=zn6tv6gqw9VolCls\&q=85\&s=f602385aaefa9d8799d62d0eb52455bb)

> [!TIP]
>
> To keep instructors from adding the plain link by mistake, edit the **Course content tool** placement and set **Availability** to **No**.

## Add LXP Content to a Course

**1. Open Content Market**

In an Ultra course, open **Course Content**, select the **+** to add content, and choose **Content Market**.

![Ultra course Course Content area with the add-content menu open: Create, Copy Content, Upload, Cloud Storage, Content Market, Content Collection, Learning Object Repository](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/afvIymk0HQUo_fCE/images/integrations/blackboard/bb-course-add-content.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=afvIymk0HQUo_fCE\&q=85\&s=3af15128a391a2551dd0cf00a810a77c)

Content Market in an Ultra course's add-content menu

**2. Pick LXP content**

The LXP is listed twice under **Institution Tools**, as **Praxislxp LTI learning**. Select the card **without** a **+**: it opens the LXP's resource picker. Choose the LXP course or cohort to add. (The card with a **+** adds the plain link described above.)

![Content Market, Institution Tools section with two Praxislxp LTI learning cards, the first with an add button](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/zn6tv6gqw9VolCls/images/lxp/blackboard/lxp-bb-content-market.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=zn6tv6gqw9VolCls\&q=85\&s=af5335d85f00863e18ffe540fa611d32)

**3. Show it to students**

The new item is added to **Course Content**. If it shows **Hidden from students**, make it visible when you're ready.

Each item you add through the picker gets its own Gradebook column. When a learner finishes the LXP activity, the LXP sends the score to that column. Detailed learner reporting stays in the LXP, under **LXP Composer → Analytics**.

## What Learners See

The LXP item appears in the course content with the title and description of the cohort or course you picked.

![Blackboard course content area listing the Bioinformatics LXP item with its description and a Pria Digital Twin item](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/vxexX_z8sd0tBIx9/images/lxp/blackboard/lxp-bb-student-course.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=vxexX_z8sd0tBIx9\&q=85\&s=2cb84e8922f3e3c5bdbf65bff0e5820d)

A course's content with an LXP cohort (Bioinformatics) and a Pria item, as a student sees it (Original course view)

When a learner selects it, the LXP opens inside Blackboard and signs them in. There's no separate LXP sign-in: the first launch creates the learner's LXP account from the name and email Blackboard sends. The learner lands on the cohort's **Learning** page, with their progress on each skill and a **Start Skill** button for each one.

![LXP cohort page for Bioinformatics inside the Blackboard frame, with My Classes and Learning tabs and skill columns such as Introduction to Bioinformatics, Genome Data Mining and Sequence Alignment, each skill showing its status and a Start Skill button](https://mintcdn.com/praxisai/vxexX_z8sd0tBIx9/images/lxp/blackboard/lxp-bb-student-cohort.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=vxexX_z8sd0tBIx9\&q=85\&s=339e18cc1cb3673c86e9b61942931000)

As learners complete activities, their scores go to the item's column in the Blackboard Gradebook.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Solution |
| - | - |
| **The Client ID isn't accepted** | Check that you pasted the whole Client ID (`7ed260b0-2318-4f97-9406-c8e7dc8ac25d`), without spaces. If it still fails, contact the Praxis AI team. |
| **"The LMS did not share this user's email address"** | Edit the LXP tool in **LTI Tool Providers** and check **Email Address** (with **Name** and **Role in Course**) under **User Fields to Send**. |
| **An LXP item opens an "LTI v1.3 - Tool" information page instead of the content** | The item was added with the plain link (the card with a **+**). Delete it and add the content again through the picker. |
| **The LXP isn't in Content Market** | Confirm the LXP is **Approved** in **LTI Tool Providers**, and that its **Deep Linking content tool** placement has **Availability** set to **Yes**. |
| **The launch fails with an authentication error** | The **Tool Provider Custom Parameters** still hold the example values. Edit the LXP tool and enter your organisation's credentials and role ID from Praxis AI. |
| **"Unregistered Platform" or "Platform not active"** | Contact the Praxis AI team with your Blackboard address and the tool's **Default Deployment ID** (the LXP's menu in **LTI Tool Providers** → **Manage Deployments**). |
| **The launch fails inside the course** | LTI launches need third-party cookies: allow them for `praxislxp.com` and avoid private browsing. If it still fails, edit the **Deep Linking content tool** placement and turn on **Launch in New Window**. |
| **"Connection not private" launch errors** | Clear cached HSTS settings — see the [overview troubleshooting steps](https://docs.praxis-ai.com/mdx/lxp/admin/lti-overview.md#troubleshooting-connection-not-private-errors). |
